Taking it to the Streets

(Image captured by TC's Views: On the Streets of Jersey City)
After residing in Jersey City for one year and two months, I've decided to flip the script on this blog. Instead of giving you my perspective of what it's like to live here, I want to share the views of other Jersey City residents. The ones who were born and raised here, bought their homes here, raised their children here, and the residents who saw their community morph into one of the most diverse cities in the United States of America.

According to a 2014 demographic data collected by the American Community Survey, there are nearly 262,140 people residing in Jersey City. After dissecting the numbers, I believe there are plenty of stories to share. With nearly a 50% split between men and women, I'll try my best to keep the coverage as equal as possible.

Beyond the Sexes

In the following infographic you'll find Asians, Blacks and Hispanics collectively make up the majority of the population at 77 percent, and Caucasians are the minorities at 21 percent. Although there appears to be an equal balance of ethnicities, I haven't seen any diversity in the Downtown neighborhood of where I reside.

So where are these diverse residents living? They are concentrated in particular pockets throughout the city. Specifically in the neighborhoods within the Wards of A, B, C, D, E and F.

Stories of Jersey City residents goes beyond gun violence, politics, new development on the waterfront, restaurant openings, and lifestyle events. In effort to find these stories, it's time to take it to the streets and uncover them one ward at a time. Stay tuned...
